In place of a specific D'var Torah for the week, I want to reiterate my message Wednesday (with some minor edits for change in time and format):
In the wake of the attack on the U.S. Capitol this week, I wanted to reach out and remind each and every person in our community- we are in this together.
Regardless of personal politics, this is a moment full of anxiety and fear for our city, our state, our country. There is little we can do to influence the events playing out in Washington, D.C., but there is no limit to what we can do to support each other as neighbors, as friends, as Jews.
Pharaohs have come and Pharaohs have gone since Israel’s descendants crossed the Red Sea into freedom. It was the strength of family, of community, of faith in God and their future that allowed the Israelites to survive and thrive under powerful adversity and oppression. When we cried out, God heard us. But just as importantly, when we cried out we heard each other.
Do not hesitate to cry out today, tomorrow, or in the days to come. Reach out, and be prepared for others to reach out to you. So today, like our ancestors who walked out of their oppression into freedom, look to our tradition, look to each other, for the support and strength we need to survive and thrive in this time and place.
I am, as always, available for anyone who might need to talk, vent, share, or just spend time with others. If you need anything or want to talk to me directly, the easiest way to reach me if via email- Rabbibrodie@tbsev.org.
Be safe, be kind, and look out for each other.
B’Shalom,
Rabbi Brodie
