Everyone is welcome at all adult education sessions: congregational members and the community at large, Jews and non-Jews. Most classes are free or low-cost, though donations are always welcome and very gratefully accepted.

We are pleased to announce our classes for this year. This page is a work-in-progress, so new classes will be added as they are developed. Check the TBS-EV weekly Bulletin and the Event Signup page for updates.

Chai Choliday Challah Bake

Come join the whole community to bake challah together! We will mix the ingredients and braid the dough, then take it home to finish rising and bake. If you don’t know how to bake challah, we’ll show you. It’s easier than you think! We will provide ingredients.

Learn to Read Hebrew
Come learn the mysteries of the Hebrew alphabet. We will learn it all in just 5 weeks. Free of charge! (Take this class if you are planning to take Miller Introduction to Judaism.)

Miller Introduction to Judaism  

Not for converts only! Whether you’re exploring Judaism for the first time or reconnecting after a long absence, this course is for you. This is an 18-week course, divided into 2 semesters. Students in this class must also attend Learn to Read Hebrew, unless they can already read. Contact Lynne (below) if you missed that class.
“This course is taught through a collaborative educational partnership with the Miller Introduction  to Judaism Program of American Jewish University.” 
Fee:  $150

Hebrew Conversation/Conversación en Hebreo/Conversa em Hebraico

Informal conversation group. It is helpful if you can read Hebrew. I will give short lessons on vocabulary and grammar, but mostly, we’ll be talking. Beginners welcome!

Learn Torah Blessings (Aliyah)

Learn the blessings so you can be called to the Torah.
We will learn and practice, practice, practice, right on site so you will be a pro! (Hebrew reading not required.)
And while you’re here, stay another hour and join the Hebrew Conversation Club (no experience necessary).

Learn to Lead Services or Chant Torah or Haftarah
This project has been created to provide tutoring, mentoring, and guidance to our members to be able to lead parts or all of our Friday Night and Saturday Morning Services. Our target audience is post-bnai mitzvah and older in age. Free of charge!
Prerequisite: Hebrew reading and some singing ability are a good starting point.

“How-to” on Services, High Holiday Edition

What’s happening up there on the bima? What do I do if they call my name? This is a hands-on class. Practice opening the ark, “dressing” the Torah, being called for an aliyah and more.

Warm-up for  the High Holidays with some lessons from Mishnah.

 Zohar (Kabbalah)
Study Jewish mysticism. No previous experience necessary; readings in both Hebrew and English.
Anyone who wishes to daven may login at 9:00 am.

Israeli Music, Media and More

We will explore YouTube(™) and other video websites as well as Israeli Radio Stations and where to listen online. Singers / musicians from America and Israel will be discussed.

Israeli Dance
Better exercise and more fun than counting steps! Come learn “Rikudei Am,” or Israeli Folk Dancing. No experience necessary. We will teach the first hour and have open dancing the second hour.
