Adult Ed Committee

The Adult Education Committee has the primary responsibility for the education of the congregation’s adults.

The Adult Education Committee may maintain subcommittees for various age groups such as 18-30, 30-62, 62 and older or other age groups at the discretion of the Adult Ed Chair.

Mission: To provide opportunities for every adult to learn everything they want about Judaism.

Vision: To have a community literate in the fundamentals of Judaism: reading Hebrew, understanding prayers, knowing how to keep kosher and Shabbat, Jewish values on how to behave with G-d and with people, knowledgeable about Israel and why it’s important to us.

Goals:

  • Every adult should be able to read Hebrew. They should be comfortable reading prayers. They should have a basic vocabulary to understand the gist of each prayer.
  • Every adult should know what our basic texts are (Tanach, Talmud).
  • Every adult should know how to keep kosher.
  • Every adult should know how to keep Shabbat.
  • Every adult should be familiar with Friday night and Saturday morning services, and be comfortable in any synagogue around the world.
  • Every adult should have basic knowledge of Israel’s history from the 1890s until today and be a strong supporter of our homeland.
  • Every adult should understand that our morality comes from G-d and Torah.
